Death Star Cake

I really didn't like making this cake because it wasn't perfectly spherical which bothered me.  I know what to do for the next time I make a spherical cake, but I don't plan on making one any time soon :-)
a little personalization

Purple Ombre Wedding Cake

I made this cake for a friend as a wedding gift.  This cake turned out better than I had expected. The bride's only request was that it had purple in it everything thing else was up to me.  My original plan was to make a white fondant cake with purple flowers.  After hours of baking I nixed the fondant idea and decided to stick with buttercream (plus it tastes better).

I used 12 in, 9 in, and 6 in cake rounds. Each tier has two layers of cake.  Bottom tier is white cake with tundraberry jam filling, Middle is chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling, and top is a strawberry flavored cake with vanilla buttercream filling.

After frosting each tier with a layer of buttercream I piped simple roses using Wilton's 2D tip.

Making the buttercream roses is a very easy process.  You just start from the inside working out and spiral around in a circle. The 2D tip is what makes this look beautiful. There are numerous You Tube videos on how to do this... here is one: Rose Swirl 2D tip

After making all the rose swirls I felt like the cake needed something more.  So I made these cute white ruffle flowers.

For the leaves I just cut out leaf shapes and used my fondant ball tip tool and rolled it around the edges.  The centers of the flowers are edible silver dragees glued with a little corn syrup.

Isn't it gorgeous!

The bride gave me a lot of flexibility on this one.  I am glad it turned out well.

Hello Again Kitty

This is my second attempt at making a Hello Kitty cake at the request of a friend for her daughters birthday.  I like this one much better than the one I did two years ago. http://nomemade-cakesandcookies.blogspot.com/2010/08/hello-kitty-cake.html

I baked 3 layers using a 11x15 inch baking pan (1/3 sheet cake).  You could make a slightly smaller Hello Kitty and bake two layers using 9x13 pan.
I used a Hello Kitty clip art as a template to cut out the cake shape.

For this particular cake I used 2 layers of Strawberry cake and the middle with Chocolate cake with Strawberrry Jam filling. Crumb coat a thin layer of butter cream frosting and then added rolled fondant.

Bow, eyes, nose are all fondant.  Whiskers are toothpicks covered in fondant.  All are attached using corn syrup.

I didn't want them poking holes with candles into Hello Kitty's face so with my left over cake I made a small one.

Decorated with Wilton's Hello Kitty candles and cake rings which you can purchase through Amazon.com

Don't forget to purchase party favors...

Happy Birthday Cayli

Yoda Cake

This is my attempt at making a Star Wars Yoda cake...  With Christmas celebrations, job promotion, and assisting in our hospital grand opening even life has been a little hectic.  This is what I came up with with the little time I had.  I wanted to surprise my husband with a cake, I know he wasn't expecting it.

 Happy Birthday Sean!

Cherry Blossom Bachlorette Cake

I had a co-worker who was getting married and we decided to have a small office party for her.

small chocolate cake covered in Fondant.

I used this silicon cherry blossom mold from Wilton's which I purchase from Wal-Mart to make this cake.   Since the bird faces only in one direction I took off it's beak and added it to the otherside of it's head so that the birds would face each other.

May The Frosting Be With You- Star Wars Cake

Come with me and we can rule the birthday party together...

Luke, I am your cake topper!

Not the best cake I've done... Life is what happened and I got busy but I thought I should post this anyways.  For my 4 year old twins... Aiden Luke and Reese Liam.  Cake toppers purchased from Wal-Mart bakery.
These paper masks were a great addition to the party also purchased at Wal-Mart.
I didn't prepare a head of time and had to make a last minute pinata.  Empty cereal box stuffed with Candy, glow stick swords, baloons, etc. Wrapped in blue tissue paper, taped on ribbon, and a Star Wars printed image taped on to the box.  It worked just like a pull string pinata and they loved it.

Wedding Cake for the Hughes

I made this cake for Lori (Keller) Hughes and Gerald Hughes wedding.  3 tiered cake. Bottom and top are Devil's food chocolate cake with cherry pie filling and the middle tier is white cake with orange flavored buttercream.  All covered in fondant and decorated with pink roses.  This took about 3 days to complete.  On the 3rd day I stood back and I saw everything that I had made, and, behold, it was very good. And on the 4th day... I rested :-)

This photo was taken before I added the flowers I wanted you to see the details on the trim.

Are you Brave enough to eat this cake?

Disney's Brave Cake
I made this for my daughter's 7th birthday...

I got the layout idea from a tinkerbell cake I saw online but instead of of using tinkerbell figures I used Brave figures that I bought from Walmart's bakery.
